Mary E. Smith was born May 28, 1938, in Carneghan, Georgia to Lonnie and Rosa Belle Sullivan. She passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, in New City, NY. At an early age she moved to South Nyack, NY, where she attended the Nyack Public Schools. She met and married her high school sweetheart and would raise her family in Nyack, NY.

She was employed by Dexter Press in West Nyack, NY for several years and then was employed, until her retirement, by Becton Dickinson Laboratories in Orangeburg, NY.

Mary’s greatest love was her family. She found joy spending time with her children and grandchildren and watching them grow up over the years.

Among her interests, she loved to cook. She was known by many and will be remembered by her family for her down-home southern cooking and weekly family dinners. She enjoyed watching sports, having proudly cheered on her children as they participated in sports throughout the years and was an avid fan of both professional football and baseball. A proud and devoted family person, Mary loved spending time with her family and looked forward to spending Sunday afternoons surrounded by loved ones and sharing a southern home cooked meal she lovingly prepared. She looked forward to her trips back to her hometown to spend time with her extended family. A pillar of strength, she demonstrated compassion and love throughout her lifetime.

Shortly after marriage, Mary joined the First Presbyterian Church in Nyack, New York where she would regularly attend services with her family.

Mary is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Courtney F. Smith, two sons, Dana A. Smith and Kevin Smith, Sr.; two sisters, Barbara Smith of Carneghan, Ga. and Rose Etta Gibson of Darien, GA. and one brother, Charles Sullivan of Carneghan, GA. She leaves to cherish her memory, 4 sons, Lonnie (Vanessa) of Chester, VA., Gregory of Douglasville, GA., Mark (Gwendolyn) of Spring Valley, NY, David (Stephanie)of Spring Valley, NY; 1 daughter, Diahann Smith-Roberts (Jeffery) of Spring Valley, NY; 8 grandsons, Tony Jones, Kevin Smith, Jr., Andre Smith, Paul Harris, Shawn Harris, Shawn Washington, Liam Smith-Roberts, Jalen Roberts; 7 granddaughters, Lateshia Smith, Kortney Smith, Monique Smith, Aaliyah Smith, Dominique Smith, Justine Smith and Selena Roberts; 12 great grandchildren; 2 Brothers, Lenox (Mary) Sullivan of Carneghan, GA., Moses (Carletha)Sullivan of Townsend, GA.; 1 sister, Lonnie Taylor of Darien, GA., a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
