Obituary for Charles "Charlie" Kissane

Charles "Charlie" Kissane
Charles “Charlie” Kissane
January 4, 1932 – March 17, 2024
Charles Kissane of Stuart, Florida passed away on March 17, 2024 at the age of 92. Born in the Bronx to John and Marie (Higgins) Kissane, Charlie was the first born of 5 children. Formerly from Chestnut Ridge, NY, Charlie moved to Port St Lucie FL seven years ago and more recently lived in Stuart FL at Addington Place where he made many friends and participated in all activities. He was the ambassador who greeted all new residents and he enjoyed his days playing cards, nickel nickel, poker, bingo, going out to great meals and fishing. He will be missed by all his friends and the folks that made life enjoyable there.
Charlie was a man that took action instead of complaining about what was happening in his beloved neighborhood. He was one of the founders of the Village of Chestnut Ridge, serving on the board and acting as Deputy Mayor and Trustee for 18 years. He was the founder and past President of the Chestnut Ridge Rotary and the South Spring Valley Civic Association. In later years he worked at the Spook Rock Golf Course as a starter and ranger.
Charlie worked for RCA Service Corporation after graduation from Iona College, eventually becoming Eastern Regional Manager. He spent his entire corporate career with RCA and then went to General Electric as a branch manager when they took over. He was respected and admired by all who worked for him and he instilled his tremendous work ethic on his children.
For Charlie, family and friends were everything. He was quick to share a joke, a laugh, go to dinner or to talk about the stock market with you. He kept up on all current events and was so busy that it was tough to keep up with his schedule. He was always smiling and loved to entertain and have fun. He was the designated meat carver for family events, even bringing his own carving knife to the party. Parties were huge and he would always see if there was anyone else that should be invited.
He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Margaret “Peggy” O’Leary, son Thomas, son in law Sean Keville, brother James (Arlene) and sister Ellen Murphy (Michael) as well as his stepson Stephen Shwed and step-grandson Christopher Demos.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Barbara Ann (nee Madar) as well as his adoring children, Charles (Cathy), Eileen Albus (Mac), Denise Gilroy (John), Marie Bertrand (Doug), John (Lisa), Catherine Jolly (Bill), Madeline Keville and daughter in law Allison Kissane. His stepchildren Alyssa Demos (Paul), Cheryl Conerty (Doug), Warren and Michael (Sharon) Shwed, his brothers John and Joseph as well as his sister in laws Carol and Irene Kissane, Geraldine Greges and Sheila Krumenaker.
Charlie had a big Irish family which includes 17 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 7 step-great grandchildren and 4 more great grandchildren coming in 2024. He had many loving nieces and nephews who looked up to and admired him as well. Charlie lived a good life and was a respected, loved and honest man. He kept his friendships over many years with his childhood buddies Richie Williams and Matty McKenna and we believe that they are all together now planning a fishing trip in heaven.

He was an active church member and would go to mass every weekend (yes, both Saturday and Sunday) as well as participate in Rosary prayer with a group at Addington. He will be remembered for his warmth, love, silly jokes, beautiful smile but most of all for his love of God, family (and fishing).
A Memorial Mass and Celebration of Life will be set up in the near future with burial at St Anthony’s Cemetery in Nanuet with his beloved Peggy.
