Ruth was born on May 13, 1934, at Nyack Hospital, to Oscar Kosel and Lois (nee Randolph) Kosel. A proud resident of Nyack, Ruth grew up on Rockland Place and High Avenue along with her parents and brother, Robert (Bob) Kosel.
Ruth graduated from Nyack High School in 1952 and went on to a career in administrative service, starting with several Nyack law firms. The majority of her career was as the Secretary to the Athletic Director of the Nyack School District.
Ruth is survived by her children, son Christopher of Ossining, and daughter Laurie of New York City. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, George Jr., and her eldest son, George D, III. She is also survived by her four cherished grandchildren, Courtney, Brenden, Alex, and Bitsy; her daughters-in-law, Donna and Robyn; her brother, Bob, and sister-in-law Ann, as well as her loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends.
Ruth was a life-long member of Grace Church; serving on the Altar Guild and working at the Thrift Shop. An active and dedicated supporter of the community, Ruth was a member of the Morning Music Club, Clarkstown Senior Club, Rockland Historical Society, and Nyack Hospital Auxiliary. Ruth loved gardening, cooking, and local history. In her retirement, her hobby was family genealogy, where she amassed volumes of information for which her family will be forever grateful. She was a kind, loving, and generous soul whose warmth was contagious. She was so loved and gave so much love in return.
