Obituary for William A. Martin Jr.

SPRING VALLEY-William A. Martin, Jr. of Spring Valley NY entered into Eternal Life peacefully on April 26, 2019 in Valley Cottage at the age of 84. William was born to William and Anna Martin, Sr. (Singer) on March 9, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA. He was self employed for over 50 years as a roofer for Martin Restoration Inc.
As a survivor of Polio, he overcame many obstacles in his life. He was very involved in many civic organizations such as The Rotary Club, Jaycees, Assistant Scout Master Troop 185 and Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree. He was a Lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph’s Church in Spring Valley and St. Boniface Church in Wesley Hills. He was Honorably Discharged from the National Guard of New Jersey. He was a member of the Rockland Hook and Ladder of the Spring Valley Fire Department where along with being a fire fighter, he was part of the 17EM. He was past president and honorary member of the department. He saw an urgent need of receiving medical treatment faster so he was the founding father of Spring Hill Ambulance Corp. He was their first President and Captain of the ambulance corp. He believed in protecting the rights of the unborn and was a member in the Right To Life Committee and Respect Life, Inc. He was a proud and active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 46 years.
Bill was blessed to be married to his wife Julie (Fenton) for over 61 years. He was survived by his beloved children Billy (Susan), Cathy Skiba (Eddie), Julie Holland (Holly), Patti Crowley (Tom), Greg and Michael (Kristina) and 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Though he was an only child, he was welcomed into the the Fenton Family blessed with many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 1 from 4-8 at Hannemann Funeral Home 88 S. Broadway Nyack NY. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM, Thursday May 2, 2019 at St. Boniface Church 5 Willow Tree Road Wesley Hills, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Council 22 Linden Ave. Spring Valley, NY. 10977 or Alcoholic Anonymous-Rockland County Intergroup PO Box 706N West Nyack, NY 10994 in his name.
The Martin family would like to thank all those who took such loving care of our Dad from A&T Healthcare and Tolstoy Nursing Home.
