1SG James Michael Feely, of West Haverstraw, NY passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at the Tolstoy Rehabilitation Home surrounded by his children. He was born on May 4, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY to James and Rose Feely. He married Janie Wieland on February 26, 1956 at St. Mary’s Church in Yonkers, NY. James is survived by his children, James and Margaret Feely of Easton, PA., Gary and Geralyn Rutter of Stony Point, NY., John and Maureen Feely of Nyack, NY., James and Cathy Brooks of Stony Point, NY., and Jonathan and Eileen Mullane of Charleston SC. He is survived by eleven grandchildren, Sean, Stacey, Devin, Aaron, James, Daniel, Michael, Dalton, Corrine, Emma and Helen. He is also survived by Rose Byrnes, Patricia Feely, Karen McIntyre, Robert Terraforte, and countless nephews and nieces that referred to him lovingly as “Uncle Jim”. He is predeceased by his wife Janie, grandson Ryan James, brothers Jack and Francis, nephew Francis Jude, brother-in-law Robert Byrnes, sisters-in-laws Lillian Timchalk, and Viola Terraforte. James’ service to God, family, and country were paramount. He served in the United States National Guard, Forty Second Infantry Rainbow Division, 102D Engineer Battalion from May 1949 until May 31, 1991. He was affectionately referred to by his platoon as “Top”. He worked for the US Post Office from 1958 until his retirement in 1987, as a letter carrier. He taught his children and grandchildren the importance of hard work, determination, and diligence and often told them that the keys to life were the 6 P’s “Prior, Proper, Planning, Prevents, Poor, Performance.” He was a great father with the biggest smile in the world and will be missed. Favorite memories of dad include chuckles candy, Mrs. Beasely, and “there is nothing that can’t be fixed with a hammer and nails or duct tape”, Volks-wagon bug, and the METS!!!!!!!!
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 10:30 am at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville, NY, with a burial to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Haverstraw, NY. Friends may call on Thursday, June 20th from 5pm-9pm at the Hannemann Funeral Home, Inc. in Nyack.
