Obituary for Thomas M. "Tim-Tam" Melia

Thomas M. "Tim-Tam" Melia
Thomas “Tim-Tam” Melia died peacefully on August 23, 2019.
Tom was born in Nyack, New York on February 18, 1933 to Frank Melia and Louise Melia (Demarest). He graduated from Tappan Zee High School and worked for many years in the printing industry. In later years, he worked for AutoPro Auto Parts in Nanuet, NY.
Tom married his beloved wife Lucy “Lulu” (Pagnozzi) in 1969 who pre-deceased him in 1990. The couple lived in Piermont, NY and then Tom moved to Thorpe Village in Sparkill, NY where he had lived for the last 20 years.
Tom led a very full life. He was a Korean War veteran who served four years in the United States Navy. He was actively involved in his community as both a member and former president of the Piermont Firehouse, a former member and president of the Piermont Lions Club and a current member of the American Legion John M. Perry Post Veterans in Sparkill, NY. Tom enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially at his favorite restaurant Cornetta’s in Piermont, NY. He also was a tremendous athlete in his day, who loved playing many sports and excelled at all of them, especially baseball in his earlier years and then golf which he loved to play so very much in his later years.
Tom was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. He is survived by his sisters Emily Giraudin of Stony Point, NY and Catherine Caputo of Sparkill, NY, daughter Robin Hurtado of Westwood, NJ, grandsons Francis Otto Jr. and Kia Otto (great-grandson) of Tampa, FL, Orlando Hurtado Jr. of Westwood, NJ and George Campbell of Augusta, GA, granddaughters Tracie Otto, Carson Blackburn (great-granddaughter) and Kim McBride of Augusta, GA and many nieces and nephews.
Tom’s daughter Robin would like to thank all of the extraordinarily kind and compassionate family and friends who assisted Tom over the last year and in his final days, especially his sister Catherine Caputo and her companion Gerry Hassett, his nieces Deborah Bettmann, Deborah Gerisch and Cyndi Mounier, as well as all of the lovely people that live and work at Thorpe Village whom Tom was so very fond of; both he and Robin could not have done it without all of you.
The family will receive visitors at Hannemann Funeral Home in Nyack, NY on Friday August 30th from 4 pm to 8 pm. A Mass will be held on Saturday, August 31st at 9:30 am at St. John’s church in Piermont, NY with internment to follow at Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill, NY.
