Joe was a lifelong friend of mine.We grew up in Nyack, attending school together. When ever we saw each other ,the subject of a St. Ann class reunion would come up.It never happened and probably never will. With strong family ties to Nyack,we both stuck around our town.He came to my wedding, which made me very happy. As the years rolled by and we grew into adulthood, our times that we bumped into each other were few.But every time we saw each other,we would talk as if no time had passed at all.He was so easy to talk to.As I began my family,my heart was warmed to hear Joe give me advice on how to raise my children. Some of his tidbits of knowledge will forever ring in my ears. Joe had an empathetic heart and a sympathetic ear. That is a dangerous combination for anyone who needs to get through their day in a timely manner. So, if he wasn't in a good mood....well, he would just tell me and i accepted that as a quick end to one of our impromptu meetings. When my brother died a year ago,Joe came to his wake.I was appreciative of the great effort he made to attend.I assisted him in finding a seat near me and made sure that he was comfortable. We didn't have a lot of time to speak but we shared our thoughts and loving memories about Paul. That was the last time that I saw Joe.I am happy that we were friends.I am happy that I have so many memories of him.Joe was a true Nyacker. He will always be missed.
My heart and prayers go out to his family.
