Davida Hirsch Obituary

Davida T. Hirsch (nee Berger) born on Dec. 1, 1927 in Yonkers NY passed away on Dec. 9, 2019, at the Jewish Home of Rockleigh at the age of 92. She was pre-deceased by her parents Edward W. and Sophie (Berkowitz) Berger of Yonkers, NY, her brother, Robert B. Berger of Enfield CT, her sister Ann R. Berger of NYC and her first husband, Jack Thorman. She is survived by her husband Yale, her daughter Bia T. H. Klein (Daniel) and sons Leslie T. Hirsch (Nancy Garber) and Jeffrey A. Hirsch (Jennifer), seven grandchildren Coby Klein, Liora Wittlin, Aviva Rosenberg, Judith Klein, Max Hirsch, Samson Hirsch, and Nathaniel Hirsch, and ten great-grandchildren.

She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from NYU and her Master’s from Bank Street College in Early Childhood Education and was a pioneer in developing pre-K education programs in the Englewood and Hackensack NJ public school systems. She was also classically trained in ballet and studied at The Julliard School during her years at NYU.

Funeral arrangements through Hannemann Funeral Home of Nyack, NY. A graveside service will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson NY at 10 am on Friday, Dec. 13. Shiva will follow at the home of Jeffrey and Jennifer Hirsch, Clinton Ave. in South Nyack NY starting at noon on Friday. Shiva will also be observed on Sunday from 11 AM until 2 PM at the same location..
