Obituary for Milton Harris Jr.

Milton  Harris Jr.
Milton Harris Jr. passed away on February 7, 2021 after a brief illness due to COVID-19.
Milton was born on January 26, 1948 in Nyack, NY to Milton Harris Sr. (deceased) and Doreatha Harris. He spent his formative years in Nyack and entered the U.S. Army in 1966 serving with distinction until 1969, achieving the rank of Sgt. E5.
He was deployed to Vietnam from 1966 to 1967 in the 25th Infantry Division. Sgt. Milton Harris’s military commendations include the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, among many others.
This highly decorated soldier took a spiritual path when he moved to Tulsa, OK and attended the Rhema Bible School. Upon graduation he worked in the field of human services and founded the nonprofit, Our House, which provided service and ministerial rights to people in the last stages of the AIDS virus.
Milton is survived by his mother, Doreatha Harris, for whom he was a loving primary caregiver until his last days, sister Dolores Harris Remsen (Chris), brother Maurice Harris, son Hakim Harris (Carrie), daughter Lorice Harris-Rodgers (Mark), and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Milton is predeceased by his sister Annette Harris Smith.
Milton will be remembered as a man who loved the Lord, his mother, and his family.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021 at the Rockland County Veterans Cemetery in Spring Valley, NY.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in the name of Milton Harris Jr. to the Wounded Warriors Project.
