Obituary for Howard Joseph Olay

Howard Joseph  Olay
Devout catholic Howard Joseph Olay passed away on March 23, 2021 peacefully in his home in Upper Nyack, NY. He was the oldest of five children born to Frank Olay and his wife Gertrude. Howard was born in Bronx, NY, where he attended St. Brendan's Catholic School until the early 1940's, when the family relocated to Upper Nyack, NY. He then attended St. Ann's School, followed by Nyack High School. In 1952, Howard enlisted in the Army, where he served for eight years until his honorable discharge in 1960. He then met, and was married to Helen Guerdineer, who predeceased him in May of 1991. They were happily married for twenty five years.
Some time after the military, Howard was a delivery man for Mcdermitt Ice Cream Company until he became the owner and operator of 'The Deli' in Garnerville, NY for fifteen years. His most recent employment was in the coffee shop at the County Courthouse in New City, NY until last year. In his younger years, Howard enjoyed bowling in a league, and was an avid NY sports fan, following the NY Yankees, and the NY Giants.
Howard was a kind, easy going, true gentleman who was loved very much, and will be dearly missed. He is survived by his three sisters, Melissa, Eileen and Florence, as well as many nieces and nephews. Visiting is scheduled for Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM at St. Ann's RC Church in Nyack. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM at the church with interment to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Nyack, NY.
