Obituary for Joseph G. Manganelli

Joseph G. Manganelli
Joseph G. Manganelli, 91, of Somers, New York, peacefully passed away on May 23, 2021, on a day filled with bedside visits from loved ones.
Joe was born to Vincent and Gemma in Bronx, NY. After graduating from City College, where he proudly served in the ROTC, he worked in the Insurance Industry as well as taught English as a second language to those seeking a new life in America. During this time, he also married his beloved, Helen (née Walsh) who passed away in 1970. They had five children; Mindy Kehoe (husband Kevin), Joseph (wife Claire), Cynthia Gallo (husband Henry), Lynne Smith (husband Frank) and Robert (wife Anna). Joe was also family to Hilda Navarez and Kathy Cortes, and is survived by 9 Grandchildren (Elaine, Kevin, Kate, Patrick, Kristina, Steven, Janine, Shannon, and Grace), 5 Great Grandchildren, his sister, Anne, and many loving Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins here in the US and in Italy. He was pre-deceased by his sisters Teresa and Jeannette, as well as his cherished Grandson Francis “Frankie” X. Smith V.
Upon retiring in the 1990’s, Joe volunteered at the Museum of Natural History in the Butterfly Habitat (where he continued to make friends from all over the world), and also became an accomplished sculptor. He also enjoyed cheering on his Grandchildren, and had many lasting bonds with a large extended family that he loved as much as his own.
In lieu of flowers please make Memorial donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital @ stjude.org
