Obituary for Marie D. DeMilio

In loving memory of Marie (Sutera) DeMilio, 94 of Nyack, New York died Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at her daughter Marie’s home in Port Charlotte, FL. She was born on March 30, 1927 to Bessie and Joseph Sutera. Marie, wife of the late Peter Anthony DeMilio Sr. were parents of Marie DeMilio-Buchman, Peter A. DeMilio Jr. and Denise DeMilio-Ermmarino. Included in this immediate family are; Jennifer & Alison (children of Marie), Peter’s wife Ellie and Erica & Dustin (children of Peter), and Denise’s husband Gabe and their daughter Chloe.
Our mom (Marie) was a devoted wife and loving mother, as well as an amazing grandmother to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Our mom and dad had a great life raising their 3 children and were very proud of every single accomplishment their children ever achieved. Being the middle child and only boy had its perks. My older sister Marie, was the one who was strictly disciplined and my younger sister Denise was always dad’s favorite, but nonetheless I have 2 excellent sisters that are loved dearly.
She bragged endlessly about her family to everyone who knew her. Her family was her whole world as was her sister Kay and 4 brothers Charlie, Sal, Pat & Joe (who is the last surviving sibling.) Her siblings, along with all of her nieces, nephews and friends loving called her “Mae”.
Mom was the life of the party and a most gracious hostess who enjoyed dancing and singing. She loved all the holidays, especially when her children all came to visit. Also, as a FYI, you better not forget to send her a card and/or call her for whatever holiday or occasion there was or you would be in the dog house.
Growing up I distinctly remember Friday night dinners. Mom would make lentil soup and fresh homemade pizza. Those handmade pizzas would attract neighbors and friend’s alike, mom was a great cook. Also, I would be remiss if I didn’t include the artichokes and homemade bread!
She loved her husband and they enjoyed their retirement in sunny Florida. Mom was also the keeper of all important things such as; family photos, letters, post cards, and newspaper articles. She never missed sending a card and gift to each and every one of our family and our extended family members. She was adored and loved by her entire family as much as she adored and loved them.
Life will not be the same without her and her presence will always be with us now and forever. She will be deeply missed.
In leu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made in Marie’s name to:
Tidewell Hospice 1144 Veronica St. Port Charlotte, FL. 33952 (941) 979-4300
