Obituary for Eileen N. Ingrassia

Ingrassia, Eileen (Nicols)...Valley Cottage, NY…December 27, 2021
Eileen Ingrassia (nee Nicols) died peacefully at Joe Raso Hospice Residence on Monday, December 27th after a brief, courageous battle with cancer. She was 75 years old.

Eileen and her twin Gail were born on June 25, 1946, to Howard and Kathleen Nicols, and along with brother Gregory and sister Colleen, they grew up in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, and later Glendale,Queens.

The prettiest lass in the secretarial pool at General Motors, she met her co-worker and future husband John “Jack” Ingrassia, of Nanuet, NY. Married in 1968, Jack convinced her to move to “the country” (Rockland County, NY) where they resided for the 53 years of their marriage. The ultimate mom, she led the Brownie Troops, baked for the bake sales, chaperoned the Bronx Zoo trips, came to all the games, sat through 17,511 Nutcracker performances at Coupe, wouldn’t let her kids eat sugar cereal or drink soda, and did all the things the suburban moms excel at.

Eileen was a long-time employee of the Nyack Public School District and The Windward School in White Plains, NY and had spent her time enjoying friends, family, and her grandchildren since her retirement.

Eileen is survived by her twin Gail Nicols Tumulty, her brother Greg Nicols and his wife Susan, and sister Colleen Nicols Murphy and husband Kieran. She was predeceased by her parents Howard and Kathleen (Campbell) Nicols, her second mom Colleen Nicols, her brother-in-law Bill Tumulty, her nephew Thomas Tumulty, and her in-laws Dr. Paul and Marie Ingrassia.

Eileen is also survived by her loving husband Jack Ingrassia, her three children Mary Fiore (John), John Ingrassia (Monica) and Jennifer Desaulniers. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren Evan Fiore, Anna Fiore, Charlotte Fiore, JP Ingrassia, Gianna Ingrassia, Jack Ingrassia, Benjamin Desaulniers and John Desaulniers, whom she adored, tried to teach the Irish jig, and gave them lots of laughter.

Eileen’s in-laws Paul Ingrassia and wife Margot, Fred Ingrassia, Dr. Joe Ingrassia and his wife Jill, Chris Ingrassia and his wife Tricia, and Walter Edmonson, in addition to many nieces and nephews and their growing families are among the family members who will miss her.

Ironically known as “Mother Beach”, Eileen avoided the sun, the sand, and was terrified of water! But she loved reading, HGTV, her Italian lessons (she was almost fluent), Irish music, eating Italian rainbow cookies, taking time for a proper afternoon tea (leaves only, no tea bags!) and laughter. She will be missed deeply by all who came into her light.

Service details: Eileen will be cremated in a private ceremony, with burial and a celebration of her life to be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Eileen’s memory to support the Joe Raso Hospice Residence at United Hospice, Inc., 11 Stokum Lane, New City, New York 10956
