Obituary for Madeleine Oswald

Madeleine  Oswald
Madeleine (Lynn) Sophie Barrett Oswald passed away peacefully on January 9th, 2023. She was almost 97 years old and lived a long, meaningful life guided by her faith, love of family and community. Madeleine and her husband Bill had 67 years of loving companionship and nine children. 

Madeleine was born at home in New York City on February 23rd, 1926. Her father, Thomas Barrett, and her mother, Anna O’Connor, were from County Kerry, Ireland. Lynn was the youngest of five siblings - Rita, Neil, Tom and Mary have all predeceased her. On November 29th, 1947 Lynn married the love of her life, Bill, at Corpus Christi Church in New York City.

Lynn and Bill were part of the Marycrest Catholic community in West Nyack where they raised their nine children, creating a warm, loving home that welcomed many through the years.

Lynn is predeceased by her beloved Bill, cherished daughter Monica Mary Ahrens, and dearest granddaughter Anna Therese Oswald. She is survived by her children and their spouses: William (Denise), Monica’s husband Robert Ahrens, Stephen, Therese Curran (John), Clare Weber (Tom-deceased), Mark, Thomas (Bari), Madeleine Gordon (Peter), Michael (Marilyn), 16 beloved grandchildren and 11 cherished great grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday January 20th at St. Ann’s Church, 16 Jefferson Street, Nyack at 11:00am. Visitation will be at St. Ann’s Church at 10:00 before the Funeral Mass. Internment will immediately follow the Funeral Mass at Rockland Cemetery in Orangeburg, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Lynn’s honor to St. Ann’s Food Cupboard, 16 Jefferson St, Nyack, NY 10960 .
