An Ogdensburg, NY native, Gary was born on September 17, 1943 in Sampson, NY, son of Guy and Florence (Havens) Harper. Arrangements are with the Hannemann Funeral Home in Nyack, NY. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery.

Gary enlisted in the US Navy in 1962 as a Navy corpsman and was honorably discharged in 1968. While in the Navy, he received the National Defense Service Award and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Award (Dominican Republic). He also attended college at New York State College in Potsdam, NY, the year prior to enlisting in the Navy.

Gary worked for the State of New York Mental Health Hospital in Rockland County, NY as a therapy aide until retirement.

We will always remember Gary for his wonderful dry sense of humor. During our visits, he regaled us with numerous amusing anecdotes that left us in fits of laughter. Gary’s immense compassion touched our hearts, and we took delight in hearing about his countless acts of kindness towards others. That was Gary! He will be greatly missed.
