Obituary for Sheila Mary Lowney

Sheila Mary Lowney
Sheila M. Lowney, 74, formerly of Warwick, NY, passed away on October 21st, 2023, surrounded by loving family members. She was a beloved wife to Edward Lowney for over 53 years, a mother to her daughter Bryn Foley and her husband Thomas Foley and son Collin Lowney and his wife Jennah Gunn and grandmother of four.

Sheila was born in New York, NY, to her Irish immigrant parents, Jeremiah, and Dymphna Aherne on February 3, 1949, and was very proud of her Irish heritage and her Bronx roots. She was the youngest of her five siblings, which included her two sisters Kathleen and Dymphna, her brother Gerald and her brother John who preceded her in death.

After graduating from Saint Clare’s Nursing school in New York City in 1968, she went on to have a nearly 50-year career as a registered nurse in labor and delivery, which included over 40 years with Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY. Sheila felt labor and delivery nursing was her calling, and it was not uncommon for Sheila to give her time to friends of friends or even complete strangers as they navigated the challenges of those first few weeks with their newborns.

Sheila was dearly loved by her family, friends, co-workers, and all who knew her. Her absence will be deeply felt, but they will all have wonderful memories.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 29, from 2:00-5:00 pm at Hannemann Funeral Home, 88 South Broadway, Nyack, NY 10960. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Ann’s Church in Nyack, NY on Monday, October 30 at 11:30AM with burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Nyack, NY.
