Robert H. Lawson
Robert Horton Lawson
July 20, 1935 – November 8, 2023
Robert Lawson, 88 years old, died on Wednesday November 8, 2023 in Nyack, NY. Born on July 20, 1935 in New York, NY, he was the son of the late John and Fannie Lawson. Robert graduated from Nyack High School in 1956. He attended Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he met his first wife Doris Schrage. They were married in 1959 in Glen Rock, NJ. They had three children, John, Pamela, and Suzanne.
In 1983, Robert married Denise Cortez in Valley Cottage, NY. They had two children, Bryanne and
Christina, and were happily married until her death in 2011.

Robert had many occupations, including a successful career in banking and as owner/operator of Ritt’s Cards & Gifts in West Nyack. While his work was important to him, his first priority was always his family. Growing up in Haverstraw and Nyack, Robert spent many happy years on the Hudson River as a sea scout. His love of water continued into his adulthood with summers spent boating and fishing on the Hudson and in the Delaware Bay, and watching the sunsets from his summer home in Villas, NJ.

His wife Denise preceded him in death in 2011. His son John preceded him in death in 2022. He is survived by his brother James Lawson of New City, NY, daughters Pamela Smith (Jerry) of Valley Cottage, NY, Suzanne Smith (Mark) of Croton on Hudson, NY, Bryanne Adler (Jade) of Nyack, NY, Christina Fontanilla (Daniel) of Valley Cottage, NY, grandchildren Megan Smith (Sam Kaza), Casey Smith, Julia Smith, Robert Smith, Kody Smith, Brinn Adler, and many other loved ones. Robert’s kindness, direct honesty, sense of humor, and love for others will be forever felt by his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A wake will be held at Hannemann Funeral Home in Nyack on Friday November 24 from 4-8pm. A
Funeral Service will be held at Central Presbyterian Church in Haverstraw on Saturday November 25 at 10am, with burial to follow at Mt. Repose Cemetery in Haverstraw.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, remembrances be made in the form of charitable
contributions to the Congers-Valley Cottage Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
