Condolences

Condolence From: Nancy Newfield
Condolence: Jane was a wonderful mentor to me at Literary Solutions, helping me get interested and knowledgeable about helping immigrants pass their citizenship interviews. Watching her with a group of students was memorable. She made everyone believe they would succeed and she was so kind and supportive. Her exceptional teaching ability and wonderful sense of humor ensured that everyone enjoyed her classes and did, in fact, succeed. I leaned on her for encouragement and knowledge for years. She will be sorely missed. What a special woman.

Condolence: I met Jane at Literacy Solutions. I was her teacher's assistant in her citizenship prep classes and I took over the classes when she wanted to step down after years of teaching. But I knew her and loved her more as a close friend outside of work. We had ALOT of fun. She, Dick and I picked bittersweet at Letchworth in the fall, swam in their complex's pool in the summer, attended Hudson Valley Shakespeare plays, tried out new recipes, most recently one from her daughter, Kathy. She taught me about birds and plants and how to sew a proper hem on a dress (she ended up sewing the hem for me). She and Dick came to a luncheon at Gricelda and Rey's along with Evelina, Vlad, Bill and me. We played The Newlywed Game after lunch and of course, Jane and Dick won! My deepest condolences to Dick, Eric, Kathy and the grandchildren she adored. xoxo Lisa

Condolence: Miss Jane was one of my biggest mentors and supporter. This is why I'm part of this amazing organization, Literacy Solutions NY. She believed in me and transformed my life with her knowledge and the amazing support she carried through all these years. She always asked about my family and told me how proud she was of my accomplishments. God sent us Angels on earth to show us the way and touch us for life; for that, I will be always grateful.

She impacted so many lives and her legacy will continue through our organization. I will continue her legacy by helping the community with their citizenship process and teaching ESL.

Forever grateful dear Miss. Jane.

Condolence: Since I am unable to be at Jane’s memorial I am taking this space to say good-bye.

Dearest Jane: in Liberia, our students gave you the name Yahbleh, Yah for 2nd born daughter and Bleh for beautiful, which indeed you were. If their Mano language had a word for Force of Nature, they might well have added it on. I am so grateful for our 61 years of friendship despite what turned out to be a continental separation. I will miss our visits, your funny and many times sardonic correspondence, grinding our teeth over the NYT Spelling Bees and US politics, sharing family news and so much more. My email box is bereft.
Much love to you, dear Dick, to Kathy and Eric and to the grandchildren she was so proud of.

Condolence: I worked with Jane for many years in Orange and Rockland counties. We opened many group homes together in the closing of Letchworth. Jane had a great sense of humor, and could lift your spirits.
She was very, very smart and always willing to help.
I will miss having her in the world, and her wonderful Christmas messages.
Godspeed.

Condolence: Sorry to hear about Jane's passing. I worked with her in Orange county for several years and quickly came to appreciate what a wonderfully sensitive and caring person she was. She was truly a "mensch".
