Obituary for Daisy V. Batson

Daisy V. Batson
Daisy Batson, a beacon of love and creativity, departed this world on March 16, 2024, surrounded by the warmth of her family at the Joe Raso Hospice Residence in New City, New York. At the age of 96, she gracefully embraced the next chapter of her journey with her son Bill Batson and his beloved life partner Marisol Diaz by her side.

Born in 1928 in Brunswick County, Virginia, to the loving embrace of Georgina Anna Goldsberry and Oscar Pines, Daisy was a cherished member of a family of nine. Her adventurous spirit led her to Paterson, NJ, where she crossed paths with her soulmate, William Prime Batson, whom she married in 1955. Together, they nurtured a beautiful life in Teaneck, New Jersey, raising their son amidst a tapestry of love and support.

Art and design were the soulful melodies that danced through Daisy's life. From her days as a custom framer at Jules Glass Shop in Hackensack to her time as a cosmetologist at Bloomingdale's in Riverside, New Jersey, her passion for creativity knew no bounds. In 1972, she embarked on a new chapter, co-founding the Elston Howard Art Gallery with her dear friend Arlene Howard, specializing in the import and sale of Haitian Art. Her love for the arts blossomed further as she curated a gallery program at Galilee United Methodist Church in Englewood, NJ, showcasing a vibrant blend of Haitian, African, and modern art that mirrored her eclectic tastes.

A pillar of strength in her community, Daisy dedicated 30 years of her life to serving on the board of the Greater Englewood Housing Corporation, leaving an indelible mark on those around her through her unwavering commitment to social good.

In the tapestry of her life, Daisy is preceded in death by her beloved siblings Bernell, Ruby, Alvin, Irma, Oscar, Cliff, Marvin, and Georgina. She leaves behind a legacy of love and inspiration, carried forth by her son, William R. Batson, and a host of cherished nieces and nephews – Sylvia Peterson, Kim and Leon Freeman, Seth, Allen, and David Warren, Ed, Howard, and Tina Faggans, and Chrystal Pine – who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

Daisy's spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her, a testament to a life well-lived and a love that knew no bounds.
