Obituary for Monica T. Lynch

Monica T. Lynch
Monica Theresa Lynch passed to her Heavenly Life on April 2, 2024 in her 99th year---just a few weeks away from a Grand Celebration planned for her 100th Birthday. Monica was proud of her Haverstraw, New York roots having been born there in 1924. Up until she died, Monica could name ever person in every house in Haverstraw in her time and to whom they were related. She was the last Historian of Haverstraw for her generation. Monica was also a force of nature in Catholic causes in the Village of Nyack where she lived raising her children and later in West Nyack where she with her Family moved until her death.
Monica was a great athlete at St. Peter’s School in Haverstraw when young woman were not supposed to be great athletes. She was a tireless worker who helped her Family during the Depression years and beyond by giving even when not asked. She graduated from Haverstraw High School and later met the love of her life, Edward J. Lynch, Jr. also of Haverstraw. They were married for 67 years until “Prince Edward” as he was known passed away on August 29, 2015. They were undoubtedly an example of the most loving couple ever in this World.
Monica never let anything come in her way of accomplishing her goals for her Family that she was most proud of while still working at several places in many different settings. From selling sweaters out of her house to help with extra income, to being “Molly” at Rockland Lake Golf Course South to guiding her children in whatever they did, Monica was there with full energy and more spirit than one could imagine. In addition to all of that, Monica found time to be fully involved with her Catholic Faith from her many activities at St. Ann’s Parish when living in Nyack to her later involvement with St Anthony’s Parish after moving to West Nyack.
While there were so many more accomplishments that Monica achieved in her 99 years, she had the greatest pride in her Family as her greatest accomplishment. Monica never forgot a Birthday of any of her Children, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. So we know that Monica would want them all named here and now. Her Children Eileen (Dick) Meighan; retired Judge Dennis (Marcia) Lynch; Terence, Timothy, Patricia Ann (Paul) Devine and Robert (Carol) Lynch. Her Grandchildren were Megan, Jennie, Timothy, Sean, Kara, Michael, Matthew, Libby, Kaleen, Monica, Timothy, Jr., Meagan, Gavin, Trevor, Kate, Claire, James, Kelsey, Robert Jr., Edward, Jr. and Brittany. Her Great Grandchildren are Aidan, Liam, Connor, Molly, another Connor, Maeve, Owen, Luke and Vivienne, Aine, Brady, James, Callaghan, Ryan, Brynn, Maddalyn, Ella. Jack, Julia, Grace, Maggie and Evie.
Monica’s Family asked that in lieu of flowers that any contribution to Birthright of Rockland County, 257 S. Middletown Road, Nanuet, New York 10954 would greatly honor her Memory. A Prayerful Wake at St. Ann’s Church will be at 11:30 AM on Saturday, April 6, 2024 to be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial there at Noon.
