Obituary for William Albion "Al" Volk Jr.

William Albion "Al"  Volk Jr.
William a Volk Jr , (Al) passed away peacefully on November 29, 2022 at the age of 94.
Survivors include his wife Martha A (Rhein) Volk of Nyack, son William A Volk 3rd (Al) of Nyack son Ralph J Volk and wife Deborah of Maryland, daughter Marjorie A Acosta and husband Daniel of Tennessee, 6 grandchildren, Victor, Jenna (Terrell), Emma and husband Jonathan, Jesse and wife Rebecca, Dwight, and Mary (Ofir), 4 great grandchildren Cruz, Noah, Duke and Henry. Al was born at Nyack hospital on July 23, 1928 and graduated from Nyack High School in 1946. He received an associates degree from the McCallister school of embalming and worked at a funeral home in Rockland County prior to enlisting in the US Navy. Al was a hospital corpsman during the Korean War and spent time in Hawaii, San Francisco and the Great lakes. After leaving the service in 1954 he worked for 30 years as a project analyst for orange and Rockland utilities, now con Ed in Pearl River New York. While working at O & R he met Martha and they married in 1956. They went on to have three beautiful children. During this time he served as a trustee in the village of Nyack. He took part in the urban renewal agency and proudly served as Mayor of Nyack from 1981 to 1987. Al spent many years bowling in leagues at King Pin bowling alley, and was very proud of his 190 average. He also spent time playing on various softball teams. Al‘s love of baseball lead him to coach Nyack Little League during the time his sons were playing. Sports was a big interest in Als life. His favorite teams were the Mets, Giants, Rangers and Knicks. He also enjoyed listening and watching the news of the day. Vacations were spent at the family cabin in South Fallsburg New York where he spent time fishing , boating and relaxing with family. Al‘s devotion to family , friends and the community will be greatly missed.
