“Dinner “

I can remember hanging out in our small kitchen on Main Street, behind the Barons Furniture Store... waiting, with anticipation, when our mother would say it was time to set the table and at long last, have dinner .... Our mother could definitely COOK.... She had a meal for each day of the week ... Fridays would be fish and a vegetable and starch ( potatoes, corn, cornbread... etc.). Liver, ugh, once a week, Hot dogs and pork and beans and her homemade biscuits... Yum, fried chicken, I always waited in the kitchen for the gizzards, pork chops, chicken and dumplings on Sundays, or Virginia Baked Ham.... Collards , Mustard or Kale, greens I often had been sent to Rasos in the early morning hours of that day or the day before... Those home cooked meals set the standard for my own family dinners in the future, which never quite measured up... l Ill keep trying perhaps Ill have better luck in retirement... lol.
